In 1861, industrial pioneer, inventor and designer Erdmann Kircheis established a machine factory in Aue, Saxony, Germany. The company, bearing the name of its founder, Kircheis, started out by producing simple machinery for processing tinplate, like beaders, flangers and slitters.
In 1880 the first reliable can seamer was built. For the next hundred years, Kircheis (later on under the name of Blema) proved to be a solid, blooming business. The company name was changed into Blema in 1946 the start of the GDR period. In 1997 Gebrüder Leonhardt took over not just the company, but also adopted the names of Blema and Kircheis in their company name. After a history of over 160 years in the business, the name Blema is still equivalent to solid, trustworthy machinery.
